- 2/3 cup shortening
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 2 eggs
- 2 Tbsp water
- 2 Tbsp molasses
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1 Tbsp SACO Cultured Buttermilk Blend
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp ground ginger
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in water and molasses. Combine dry ingredients. Gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Chill for several hours. Preheat oven to 375°F. On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter dipped in flour. Place 2 inches apart on greased baking sheets.
Bake for 8-10 minutes or until edges begin to brown. Cool on wire racks.
