Step 1: Bars:

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/3 cup molasses
  • 3 Tbsp butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 6 Tbsp water
  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 2 Tbsp SACO Cultured Buttermilk Blend
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp allspice
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup raisins or currents, if desired

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350°F.  Grease a 9 inch square baking pan. Combine sugar, molasses, butter, egg, vanilla and water in a mixing bowl. In a separate bowl combine the dry ingredients. Add dry mix to the creamed mixture. Stir in raisins or currents. Mix well. Bake in prepared pan for 18-20 min. Cool in pan on wire rack.

Step 2: Topping:

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp confectioners sugar
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon

Instructions:

Combine ingredients and sprinkle over cooled cookie bars.
